The Sinker EDM process is a process of cutting an electrode and a metal workpiece with sparks under dielectric water. It is preferred in sectors requiring superior surface quality and precision measurements. Our GE series sinker EDM machines provide high performance, low cost, and precise metering.
WORKING PRINCIPLE OF SINKER EDM MACHINERY
A power source produces an electrical charge between an electrode and metal piece in dielectric fluid, and thanks to structure of the dielectric liquid, hundreds of thousands of sparks are generated per second. These sparks ensure that workpiece is cut to desired dimensions. Blind holes and complex shapes, which cannot be performed with EDM wire, can be cut more easily.
Dielectric liquid is necessary for erosion. In addition, it has the functions of removing the chip from the work environment and decreasing of environment heat. Dielectric liquids should not be allowed to overheat. The overheated liquid causes the formation of gas, thus reducing the speed of chip removal.
